If you are in the design business, then 3D modeling is nothing new. This article is not for the experts, although, what I’m going to talk about may interest the experts as well.

I’m going to introduce you to a free, 3D modeling tool that you can use to create any type of 3D model and is very easy to learn when compared to industry stalwarts like lot of CAD applications, yes anyone can do it!

The application is called Sketchup and is developed by Google. There is a version for Windows or OSX that you can download directly from sketchup.google.com. While you are there, also do watch some of the videos on “how to” and see how easy it is to create 3D objects.

You don’t have to be an expert, but if you are one, Sketchup can still save you tons of time compared to creating something in more complex applications that are not very intuitive.

If you just looked at the first few videos, keep watching them. At first glance, Sketchup appears to be not very accurate as there is no place to input specific measurements but you will see it actually lets you do this by typing in measurement as you create objects.
