I have discussed the benefits of virtualization before. Today, I want to write about the benefits of virtualization as it pertains to disaster recovery and a hybrid approach to your infrastructure using both on-site and hosted servers. This strategy allows you to dynamically increase and decrease compute capacity without having to invest in peak compute capacity initially.. Virtualization can provide your enterprise the capability to migrate servers and server resources between your site and the datacenter. Virtualization technology available now offers you to move your compute resources dynamically between different sites, be they in-house or hosted, without even having to shutdown the running servers. This concept not only allows you to recover from disasters very quickly but also allows you to move compute power to sites where you have more computing power available to handle peak loads. You can have a virtual server at your site and clone it to a hosted location. Then during disaster you can simply spin up the cloned server and restore your data from online backups. Even if the onsite server is not virtual, you can clone physical server to a hosted virtual server and power it up on an as needed bases, during disasters or during peak loads. Is your infrastructure setup to readily take advantage of virtualization, if not, now is the time to plan as your competitor may already be using virtualization to minimize costs and maximize efficiency. Our Online Server Backup works very well with virtualized servers to enable quick recovery of data to your virtual disaster recovery server and we even have plans to host your virtual servers when disaster strikes. The time to prepare is now, let virtualization give you the competitive advantage! |
