profClean is a Windows service used to clean up user profiles.

It always preserves the following profiles:
*  The built-in administrator user profile.  This is preserved even if the built-in administrator account is renamed.
*  Default user profile.
*  All users profile.
*  Profiles of all users currently logged into the machine.
*  Any directories underneath the user profiles root directory specified by the administrator.

Other than the above, profClean deletes all directories from within the profile root directory (usually c:\Documents and Settings) and all user profile data in the registry.

Features

* Delete unneeded user profiles from Windows Terminal Servers and Citrix MetaFrame servers.
Many people log in and out of terminal servers. Windows does not always delete profiles of users when they logout due to various reasons. Periodically running ProfClean on such servers deletes these profiles.
* Remove local user profiles on Windows machines with madatory profiles, such as kiosk machines.
Many people log in and out of kiosk machines. Such machines are usually setup to use mandatory user profiles. However, whenever a user logs on, Windows will still create a profile for the user. When the user logs out, Windows will usually delete the profile. However, sometimes Windows is unable to delete the profile. Running ProfClean on such machines helps deletes these profiles.
* Keeps the disk clean.
Removes unneeded files and directories from the machine's disk. This is especially useful since user profiles are usually stored on the system drive.
* Keeps the registry clean and prevents registry bloat.
Removes references to user profiles from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, helping prevent registry bloat.
* Prevents end user issues caused by corrupt profiles.
Removal of unneeded end user profiles prevents any corruption or stale data causing issues when the users log on repeatedly.


Restrictions of the unregistered version

Until you register your copy of profClean, it will only delete three profiles.
Fully licensed copies delete all user profiles that profClean determines can be safely deleted.
